corrosion inhibitor

Proudly manufactured in Australia, Staun 329 is a chemically engineered, multi-functional formulation that provides unprecedented penetration, lubrication and unsurpassed corrosion protection to multiples of metals. A corrosion cell is similar to a tiny battery: there is an Anode, Cathode, Electrolyte, and a path of Current. Eliminate any one of these elements and you shut down the corrosion process.

Stage 1
Staun 329 immediately eliminates two of the four corrosion causing elements. Upon application to a metal surface (ferrous or non-ferrous), it displaces the electrolyte then starts migrating into cavities and hard to reach areas, leaving a monomolecular layer (ultra thin film) that polar bonds to the metal surface and blocks the path of current.
Stage 2
Staun 329 also incorporates what is termed as Vapor Phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI). VpCI has been around for over five decades and has been extensively used in the Petro-Chemical Industry, Defence Force, for Water Storage, Super Structures, Treatment Plants and so forth. Vapor-phase Inhibitors have also been used for corrosion control in products ranging from the miniature volume of hearing aids to the cavities and void spaces of mammoth tankers. There is little, if any, limitation to use of Vapor-phase Inhibitors in relation to the type of atmosphere. Staun 329 VPC compounds are used in local industrial atmospheres that contain sulphurdioxide, chlorine or hydrogen sulphide.

VpCI’s are chemically engineered crystals designed to vaporize and carry the corrosion inhibitor pedigree into the surrounding atmosphere. After the vapors have condensed to form a thin film of micro crystals, the inhibiting process continues. In the presence of even minute quantities of moisture (surface or air born), the crystals dissolve and develop strong ionic activity.
The result of such activity is the absorption of protective ions onto metal surfaces, with the concurrent replenishing of the molecular film to break down the contact between the metal and an electrolyte.

The presence of this invisible monomolecular film does not alter any of the important properties of the metal, even in precise electronic applications, where properties such as conductivity, magnetic permittivity or dimensional tolerances are critical and where even minute deviations could cause malfunctioning. Staun 329 must be distinguished from barrier coatings or wax-based sealants that are commonly used as corrosion inhibitors. Staun 329 is not a sealant; it does not contain wax, tar, silicone or solids and once it is dried (in approx 24 hours – depending on atmospheric conditions), it leaves no sticky gummy mess behind. Polar bonding of the ultra thin film with the metal surface makes Staun 329 cling like a magnet and resist being washed away. If the film is disturbed or scratched, capillary action and VpCI activity will cause the film to self heal and replenish.
Staun 329 is also recognized for its unsurpassed lubricating and penetrating properties. A standard 150ml spray pack will out perform and out last 5-8 cans of popular water displacers (WD’s), lubricants or penetrants. Staun 329 performs extremely well under heavy loads and in high temperatures.
 
 
When Staun 329 is applied, it >
 
> Displaces surface moisture;
> Forms an ultra thin film (monomolecular protective layer) which clings to exposed areas;
> Enables excess liquid to vaporise (similar to how a mothball works);
> Results in the protective vapor conditioning the surrounding atmosphere;
> Then vapor migrates to all metal recessed areas and cavities;
> And vapor condenses an all metal surfaces (replenishing);
> VpCI ions dissolve in moisture (surface or air born);
> VpCI protective ions are attached to metal surfaces;
> VpCI ions re-form a monomolecular protective layer on the metal surface (under the moisture) and the protective layer re-heals then self-replenishes through further condensation of the vapor;
> If the protected surface is scratched or disturbed, Staun 329 will self heal (creeping back to cover the scratched surface) and the cycle starts again.
